Rebecca Slater has been involved in music ministry for over twenty years.  She began by singing with the guitar group at her parish when she was in the eighth grade.  Since then, she has been continually involved in music ministry in various parishes until joining the staff at St. Pius X in February of 2006.  Rebecca makes her home in Wilder with her husband, Jeff and two boys, Dan and Paul.

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education, choral and general music concentrations, Ball State University, 1984. Voice and piano major.  Graduated magna cum laude.  Awards:  Outstanding Senior Woman, 1984, Outstanding Piano Accompanist, 1984, Outstanding Senior Choral Student, 1984,  Concerto Competition Winner, 1984

  • Master of Music degree in Piano Accompanying, University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music, 1990.

Certifications:

  • Indiana choral and general music teaching

  • Ohio non-tax teaching certification

  • Orff-Schulwerk Levels I and II

  • Kindermusik (music program for children through age 7)

Experience:

  • Montessori and Primary music specialist, The Summit Country Day School, Cincinnati, OH, January 2001 – present

Duties:  teach music to children in Montessori and Primary Divisions, plan and prepare music for children’s liturgies, direct Montessori and third grade spring plays

  • Director of Slater Music Academy, locations in Ft. Thomas and Burlington, January 1996 – present

Duties:  Manage and operate music instruction academy with approximately 25 instructors and over 400 students

  • Freelance accompanist, organist, vocalist, 1977 – present

Duties:  Accompany recitals, provide organ, piano and vocal music for weddings, parties, liturgical functions, etc.

  • Organist/choir director of St. Thomas Choir, Ft. Thomas, KY, July 1997 – February 2006

Duties:  Direct and accompany adult choir, provide piano, vocal and organ music for services and masses, work with cantors and small instrumental ensembles

Duties:  Taught private and functional piano classes, coached and accompanied faculty and student recitals, accompanied choirs and led sectional choir rehearsals

Duties:  Taught Kindermusik program to children ages 3-7
