Music Ministry at St. Pius X Parish

St. Pius X Church has a rich and varied tradition of music ministry.  Under the direction of Music Director Rebecca Slater, there are several different ensembles and opportunities for those who wish to share with others their love of God through music. 

St Pius X Choir – The St. Pius X Choir enhances the celebration of the Eucharistic liturgy.  This large choir, consisting of singers and instrumentalists high school age or older, sings a wide variety of liturgical music, both contemporary and traditional.  All voice ranges and instrumentalists are welcome.  The choir sings at the 9:30 a.m. mass and special celebrations throughout the year.  Practices are Monday evenings from 7:30 – 9:30 p.m. in the sanctuary, excluding the summer months. 

Women’s Ensemble – The Women’s Ensemble sings a variety of treble two and three-part liturgical music at the 11:30 a.m. mass on the second and fifth Sundays of each month.  Currently there are five regular members of the Women’s Ensemble.  This group rehearses approximately once per month at a time convenient for all members. 

St. Pius X Schola – The St. Pius X Schola consists of children of the parish from grades 4 – 8.  All parish children are welcome to join, whether they attend the parish school or another school.  This group sings on the fourth Sunday of the month at the 11:30 a.m. mass and at additional liturgies throughout the year.  The children practice Monday evenings from 6:00 – 6:50 p.m. in Milligan Hall and at 10:45 a.m. prior to singing their scheduled mass.

Handbell Choir - The Handbell Choir is under the direction of Judy Loftus. It is the perfect choice for someone who loves the idea of making music, but has never had the opportunity to do so before.  Several of the handbell ringers in the group have never read a note of music before, and yet they find they are able to play beautifully on the handbells.  It only requires the ability to count.  Rehearsals are on Monday evenings from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m.  This group usually plays at special celebrations (Easter, etc.) and once a month at one of the regular weekend masses.
