Music Ministry at St. Pius X Parish

Do you like to sing or play an instrument?  St. Pius X Church has a rich and varied tradition of music ministry.  Under the direction of Music Director Rebecca Slater, there are several different ensembles and opportunities for those who wish to share with others their love of God through music. 

St Pius X Choir – The St. Pius X Choir enhances the celebration of the Eucharistic liturgy.  This large choir, consisting of singers and instrumentalists high school age or older, sings a wide variety of liturgical music, both contemporary and traditional.  All voice ranges and instrumentalists are welcome.  The choir sings at the 9:30 a.m. mass and at special celebrations throughout the year.  Practices are Monday evenings from 7:30 – 9:00 p.m. in the sanctuary, excluding the summer months. 

Women’s Ensemble – The Women’s Ensemble sings a variety of treble two and three-part liturgical music at the 11:30 a.m. mass on the second and fifth Sundays of each month.  Currently there are eight regular members of the Women’s Ensemble.  This group rehearses approximately once per month at a time convenient for all members.

Youth Ensemble – The Youth Ensemble is a group of young singers and instrumentalists, high school through college age.  This group sings at the first 5:00 p.m. Saturday mass of each month in conjunction with the Youth Mass and at additional liturgies throughout the year.  They perform a variety of styles but focus primarily on contemporary Christian/Praise and Worship music. They practice at 3:30 prior to mass on the days they sing.

Schola – The Schola consists of children of the parish from grades 4 – 8.  All parish children are welcome to join, whether they attend the parish school or another school.  This group sings on the third or fourth Sunday of the month at the 11:30 a.m. mass and at additional liturgies throughout the year.  The children practice 6:00 – 6:50 p.m. Mondays from October through May and at 10:45 a.m. prior to singing their scheduled mass.

5:00 and 11:30 Ensembles – These musicians lead the congregation in song for the 5:00 and 11:30 masses on the days any of the above-mentioned groups are not singing.  They practice prior to mass each week.
