Pre-School PSR
2010-2011 Registration Form

St. Pius X offers a Pre-School PSR Program for children ages 3, 4 and 5. This program is held in the primary hallway of the school building during the 9:30 a.m. Sunday mass.

Our Sunday School program uses the program Sharing God’s Story from Harcourt-Religion Publishers. This program was developed to stimulate creativity in children while at the same time explore Bible stories with age appropriate and inviting resources.

This series helps our three, four and five year olds:

  • Play, work and worship happily with others
  • Develop a sense of awe, wonder, respect, gratitude and stewardship for God’s creation
  • Know God loves, protects and provides for them
  • Recognize that prayer is talking to God
  • Ask for, listen to and talk about Bible stories

Registration Requirements for Pre-School PSR:

  1. Normally, the child’s family will be active, registered members of St. Pius X Parish.  Exceptions may be made with the approval of the Director of Religious Education and providing that there is space available without depriving active registered families of St. Pius X .
  2. A $35.00 registration fee per child must be paid prior to the beginning of classes.
  3. Before October 1, the child must be age 3 and toilet trained to be in the 3 year old Class; age 4 to be in the 4 year old class; and age 5 and attending kindergarten to be in the 5 year old class.
  4. Parents are expected to volunteer monthly within the program as either teachers or classroom supervisors.

General Operation of the Program:

  • Teachers teach on a rotational basis. While these catechists are volunteers, they are expected to attend special training sessions held throughout the year.
  • Each week, your child will receive a Scripture Picture card for the session. Parents are asked to reinforce this lesson at home.
  • Weekly attendance is important because the lessons do build on one another. Absences should be kept to a minimum and for illness, etc.
  • We limit the size of the classes to 12-15 students depending on age. We usually have a waiting list for the program.
  • Classes begin at 9:30 a.m. and continue until the conclusion of the mass. If you are not attending the mass, please notify the teacher of this in case of emergency (otherwise, we will assume that we can find you in church).
  • “Guest children” are not allowed to visit the program.
  • Children should not bring toys, books, etc to class. Gum and food are also not permitted.
  • For your child’s safety, we request that only a parent pick your child up at the door. If someone else must pick them up, please notify the teacher ahead of time.
  • Parents may withdraw their child at any time from the program.
  • Music is an important part of our program. Regular singing opportunities are held.
  • All volunteers have attended the Virtus Training offered through the Diocese of Covington.
