The Holy See's Responses on Nutrition and Hydration
A Pro Life Prayer for Our President and Officials
RED ENVELOPE UPDATE: The White House mail office
has confirmed it received a “deluge” of as many as 2.25
MILLION red envelopes symbolizing the empty promise of lives
snuffed out in abortion. The massive campaign was larger than
most White mailing in the past 35 years. Great job...
Thanks to all who participated in this campaign!

Word of Life
The inviolability of the person which is a reflection
of the absolute inviolability of God, finds its primary and
fundamental expression in the inviolability of human life. Above
all, the common outcry, which is justly made on behalf of human
rights-for example, the right to health, to home, to work, to
family, to culture- is false and illusory if the right to life,
the most basic and fundamental right and the condition for all
other personal rights, is not defended with maximum
determination.

Obama at Notre Dame a Scandal
March 23, 2009--Friday, March 20, 2009, the
University of Notre Dame announced that Barack Obama will be
principle speaker and recipient of an honorary doctor of law degree
at the University's commencement ceremony May 17th.
Barack Obama promised to be our most pro-abortion president ever,
and so far he is delivering on that promise. He has expanded the use
of our tax dollars to fund promotion of abortion overseas plus
experimental research using embryonic stem cells obtained by killing
human embryos. He has assembled the most pro-abortion team of
advisors and cabinet members ever in Washington, DC.
Yet Father John Jenkins, President of the University of Notre Dame,
decided to invite this pro-abortion public official to be
commencement speaker and to present him with an honorary degree.
Right to Life of Greater Cincinnati has a special tie to Notre Dame,
as four current members of the board of directors are alumni. Thus
we are especially saddened that this institution, which has great
capacity for good, has instead chosen scandal.
Jack Hart, President of Right to Life of Greater Cincinnati and a
1979 graduate of Notre Dame said, "The Catholic Church could end
abortion in America, if all of us would take it seriously. Notre
Dame could and should be a natural leader in the effort. But when
the opportunity presented itself to honor the most pro-abortion
president in our history, Notre Dame was first in line."
The responsibilities of a Catholic university are clear. In their
2004 document Catholics in Political Life, the United States bishops
state, "(T)he Catholic community and Catholic institutions should
not honor those who act in defiance of our fundamental moral
principles. They should not be given awards, honors or platforms
which would suggest support for their actions."
If Father Jenkins refuses to uphold the Catholic Christian character
of Notre Dame University, he should step aside. If he will not
resign, university trustees should remove him.

Freedom Of Choice Act (FOCA): FOCA Would
Wipe Away Every Restriction on Abortion Nationwide
This would eradicate state and federal laws that the
majority of Americans support, such as:
• Bans on
Partial Birth Abortion • Requirements that women be given information about the risks
of getting an abortion • Only licensed physicians can perform abortions • Parents must be informed and give consent to their minor
daughter's abortion
FOCA would erase these laws and prevent states from
enacting similar protective measures in the future.
Action: Go to the FightFOCA.com website, sign and send petition!
So far, there have been 600,000 petitions signed! It is URGENT to
keep the petition circulating!
While we must oppose the so-called
"Freedom of Choice Act" (FOCA), which would overturn state and
federal pro-life laws of the past several decades...
...we must just as strongly
oppose the misnamed "Prevention First Act" (i.e., "Abortion Industry
Support Act").
This extreme legislation:
1) Pours millions of
tax dollars into the abortion industry. For example, Prevention
First increases taxpayer funding for the Title X family planning
program--which provides significant funds to Planned Parenthood
and other abortion providers--from $300 million in 2008 to $700
million or more.
PFA would also write Title X
family planning into law, rather than the annually renewed
program it currently is, and permanently include "family
planning services" as part of the Medicaid program (something
President Obama removed from the economic stimulus package as a
concession to opponents).
2) Guts funding for
successful sexual abstinence until marriage education programs
and replaces them with "comprehensive" sex education programs
supported by Planned Parenthood and similar organizations
3) Creates a
government-sponsored program to promote "emergency
contraception"
4) Denies federal
funding for all hospitals (including religious affiliated) that
do not provide emergency contraception for rape victims
5) Requires that all
health insurance programs that cover prescriptions cover
abortifacient contraceptives

Abortion and Economic Stimulus
(taken from the National Right to Life News):
Defending $200 million in a proposed economic
stimulus package going to "family planning services," Pelosi told
ABC's George Stephanopoulos that "family planning services reduce
costs" to the state and to the federal government. Seeming to
recognize the possibility of controversy, Stephanopoulos asked, "So
no apologies for that?" Pelosi answered, "No apologies" (Transcript,
ABC News, This Week, 1/25/09).
Stung by negative publicity associated with the
revelation, the Obama administration removed the money from the
nearly $1 trillion stimulus package. How much money may eventually
end up in the hands of abortion promoters and performers like the
Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) is not yet known. In
its fiscal year ending June 30, 2007, Planned Parenthood received a
whopping $336 million (about a third of its total revenues) in
"Government Grants and Contracts" (PPFA 2006-7 Annual Report).
Planned Parenthood defended Pelosi and called the
attempt to put money for "family planning" in the stimulus package a
"commonsense solution" that would "invest in health care and get us
out of this economic downturn." PPFA argued, "Every public dollar
spent to provide family planning services generates $4.02 in
Medicaid savings in the following year alone" (PPFA release,
1/27/09).
The argument of the savings ignores a number of
important economic details. Every time a child is aborted, the only
"stimulus" the economy receives is through the abortionist's pocket.
When a child is born, however, money is spent on baby bottles,
diapers, food, clothes, toys, etc. Whole industries benefit from,
and sometimes depend upon, the existence of a steady population of
newborns.
That is looking at things only in the shortest of
short terms. As children grow, they not only keep farmers busy
producing more food and stores selling more clothes, they also mean
jobs for teachers and principals and janitors and bus drivers and
lunch ladies. Public school enrollment in Washington, D.C., an area
with some of the highest abortion rates in the country, has plunged
since Roe. v. Wade, going from 146,000 in 1960 to 67,000 in 2000,
causing the closure of several schools (Washington Post, 9/20/08).
As they get older, those kids turn into something
else: taxpayers. They start by filling summer and part-time jobs and
eventually go on to become workers, entrepreneurs, producing,
earning, spending, saving, investing wages, paying taxes.
This is true even for those who might be on public
assistance. In The War Against Population (1999), economist
Jacqueline Kasun pointed out the average time a person stays on
welfare is two years. Considering the amount that a child will make
in his or her lifetime, and what they will pay in taxes, Kasun
calculates that, over that lifetime, a child will return in taxes
3.7 times what was spent on the child and his or her mother in cash
welfare for food, housing, and medical assistance.
Certain government programs are already starting to
experience the effects of a shrinking or stagnant tax base. Because
there are fewer and fewer workers supporting a growing retiree
population, both Social Security and Medicare face the possibility
of bankruptcy in a few short decades. Lawmakers can raise taxes or
cut benefits, but they cannot make up for economic impact of 50
million lives lost to abortion since 1973.
The loss of lives means not only the loss of their
productivity and their taxes, but also their creativity,
intelligence, and innovation. Also lost: new ideas, new inventions,
new cures, new industries, new jobs, and an increased standard of
living for all.
Obama, Pelosi, and Planned Parenthood have forgotten
that, in the end, there is nothing more valuable, more precious,
than human life. Ignore that, and all the other values get out of
whack. Sound economic thinking says that, in the end, if you want to
save money, save lives.
