Behavior Plan
The discipline plan for St. Pius X School is an organized and systematic program for maintaining an appropriate learning environment. It is based on the idea of mutual respect, and designed to help students understand that they are held responsible for their actions.
Conduct Referrals
Conduct referrals may be issued by any St. Pius X personnel and may be given for, but not limited to, the following:
1. Blatant disrespect towards teachers, parents, staff, and students;
2. Inappropriate language (written or verbal) or gestures;
3. Continual disruptive behavior;
4. Damaging/stealing of school or personal property;
5. Any action threatening the safety of self and/or others;
6. Leaving school property without permission;
7. Cheating/lying;
8. Hitting another student;
9. Dress Code Violations;
10. Gum Chewing.
A student will serve a detention for the receipt of each conduct referral. After repeated conduct referrals, the principal and assistant principal will schedule a meeting with parents to discuss the student’s behavior difficulties.
Suspension / Expulsion
If no improvement is made or if the behavior is deemed severe, the administration may suspend the student from school for one or more days. This will usually be in the form of in-school suspension unless it is determined it is in the best interest of the parties involved to have out of school suspension. The student will receive a zero for all class work completed during the suspension. Tests will be administered by the assistant principal and will be counted in the child’s grade. If a student is suspended for any reason during the school year, they may not be permitted to go on any class trips. (See Field Trips)
Disciplinary action of suspension and/or expulsion of a student from St. Pius X School will be employed for serious cause, which will include by not limited to:
1. Possession or use of drugs, alcohol, or tobacco on school grounds;
2. Possession or use of a weapon on school grounds;
3. Violence toward students;
4. Disrespect/insubordination towards teachers and staff;
5. Use of obscenities;
6. Continual source of disturbance in the classroom or other areas of school life;
7. Vandalism;
8. Refusal to cooperate with school authorities.
Only the school principal (or assistant principal when the principal is not available) may suspend a student from school. This action will be reported to the pastor. At the discretion of the principal, students may be asked to withdraw from school. If the parents do not willingly cooperate, the student will be expelled. The final decision whether or not to expel the offender rests with the pastor and/or principal. Whenever a student is expelled from school, a report must be made to the Director of Education. (Diocesan Handbook 5434)
Incentive Cards
Each student will be issued an incentive card at the beginning of the year. These cards will be used to record incentive points. Incentive points may only be given by St. Pius X adult personnel. Incentive points will be earned for the following:
1. Being in dress code;
2. Being prepared for class; (including homework);
3. Returning signed slips in two days;
4. Being quiet in the halls, restrooms, and during announcements;
5. Christian behavior;
6. Other reasons designated by the teacher.
Points earned on the card may be used for the following:

Any lost cards will be replaced; however, points will NOT be replaced on the new card. It is the students’ responsibility to keep up with the card. Any fraudulent use of the card will mean loss of this privilege for the rest of the trimester. If it is within 2 weeks of the end of the trimester, the program will be forfeited for the entire next trimester.
No more than two cards may be turned in at one time for Treasure Box items.
Think Sheets
A Think Sheet is a tool designed to allow the teacher to eliminate a child from a difficult situation. It can also be used as a tool to inform parents of a situation involving
the child. It will allow the teacher to continue with minimum disruption and give the child a chance to reflect on their behavior. The student will take it to the administrator in charge at the time and discuss the situation with them. Then the sheet will be filled out by either the administrator or the child and returned to the teacher for signature. If the teacher agrees with the information on the sheet, it will be signed and returned to the administrator for signature. It will then be sent home to the parents to sign and return to school the next day. A copy of the Think Sheet is printed below. Repeated think sheets for similar behaviors may result in a conduct referral.ST. PIUS X SCHOOL
