As we embark on a new school year, our school is celebrating its 50th anniversary. For 50 years St. Pius X School has had the honor of providing a quality Catholic education to the families of Edgewood and beyond. Our theme this year reflects that anniversary: "50 years of Faith Formation". Throughout the school year we will be celebrating the past present and future ideas of this wonderful school. I look forward to our birthday celebration on the actual anniversary, September 3rd. I also know there are many more activities planned for the remainder of the school year. Most importantly, I look forward to beginning the second 50 years.
Many changes are taking place in our school. During the summer every classroom has had new technology added. The Interwrite system is the latest in teaching technology. Our teachers will be continuing with in-service on the use of this latest addition. I hope you have an opportunity to check it out at some time during the year.
Another change to our curriculum is the addition of two new school masses each week. Grades 1-4 will have mass on Monday morning, grades 5-8 will have mass on Tuesday morning and then K-8 will attend mass on Friday as we have always done. What an opportunity for our students to celebrate liturgy more often. This is a true reflection of our Catholic traditions.
This year we will again have three cultural programs for our students. In October we will welcome the Chinese Acrobats for a wonderful performance. In winter we have invited the Space Painter (juggler) to do a program that will increase our awareness of bullying and its prevention. Then in Spring we will have a Sparkling Science show. I know that the students and faculty will enjoy these programs. Thanks to our PTG for providing the funding for them.
God is truly shining on us this year. I look forward to the many daily chances to assist the students in their Spiritual, Academic, and Personal growth.
